He studied composition at the University of São Paulo with Willy Corrêa de Oliveira and specialized with Hans Ulrich Humbert at the Studio für elektronische Musik, in Köln. He attended courses with Pierre Boulez, Luciano Berio, and Stockhausen. Received doctoral degree at University of Liège, under the supervision of Henri Pousseur, and undertook post-doctoral studies at Paul Sacher Foundation, Switzerland. He won important prizes of electro-acoustic composition: Unesco (1991), with Contextures I (Hommage à Berio), Trimalca (1993) with Profils Écartelés, and Giga-Hertz- Preis, for La Novità del Suono, among others. In 1997 he was invited to the Groupe de Recherches Musicales and the Ircam in Paris. He has written books and articles published in Brazil, Europe and the US. Professor at São Paulo State University and director of Studio PANaroma.
