JOÃO GUILHERME RIPPER

BIOGRAPHY

Studied with Henrique Morelenbaum, Ronaldo Miranda and Roberto Duarte, and received his master’s degree from the Federal Rio de Janeiro University School of Music. Completed his doctorate at the Catholic University of America (Washington, DC) under composer and violinist Helmut Branlich and musicologist Emma Garmenda. Studied conducting with Guillermo Scarabino in Argentina. He is a member of the Brazilian Music Academy and teaches composition, harmony and analysis at the Federal Rio de Janeiro University School of Music, being its diretor from 1999 through 2003. Founded and is the artistic director of the Pantanal Chamber Orchestra, in Mato Grosso do Sul. Since 2004 he is the director of Sala Cecilia Meireles, in Rio. His opera Domitila was awarded the APCA Prize in 2000.
